Flexbeam is installed on the Aberdeen Bypass

It has been one of the largest road developments in Scotland and 9 years’ after the initial approval phase, the Aberdeen Bypass was successfully completed in 2018. The £1bn scheme overcame many barriers including the collapse of Carillon, who was initially awarded the contract, but in December 2018 all routes were opened to traffic. Stretching from the Stovehaven Junction to Peterhead, Hill & Smith were delighted to be apart of this scheme.

Hill & Smith worked with sister company, Varley & Gulliver, to supply tested and complaint Flexbeam VRS, end terminals, transitions and bridge parapets. Hill & Smith Flexbeam VRS are tested to EN1317 and have CE mark approval. Hill & Smith Flexbeam vehicle restraint systems are popular in the UK as they have a variety of performance ratings for both normal containment and high containment applications, which is why it was chosen for the Aberdeen Bypass.
